Whereas,
Dr. Wallace Schulz has faithfully proclaimed the Word of God, Law
and Gospel, Sin and Grace, Justification by faith alone in the merits of
Jesus Christ, and Christianity as the only saving faith on the Lutheran
Hour for 25 years; and
Whereas, Many
maintain that during these years he has been the most scriptural of all
radio and TV evangelists; and
Whereas, The
Lutheran Laymen’s League has removed Dr. Schulz as Lutheran Hour
speaker; and
Whereas, Dr.
Ronald Garwood, President of the LCMS Wyoming District, wrote to pastors
of his district on July 15: “In my opinion, the Gospel itself is again
the issue here, and that the move against Dr. Schulz in an actual attack
on the Gospel”; and
Whereas, Dr. James
Kalthoff, president of the LCMS’s Missouri District and Dr. Schulz’s
immediate ecclesiastical superior, has found no scriptural reason why Dr.
Schulz should be removed and is pleasing with the LLL to reinstate Dr.
Schulz; and
Whereas, Texas
Confessional Lutherans are among the many confessional Lutherans all over
the LCMS who want Dr. Schulz reinstated; therefore be it
Resolved, That the
2002 National Walther Conference ask all congregations of the LCMS to
discuss this matter and ask the Board of Governors of the Lutherans
Laymen’s League to reinstate Dr. Schulz; and be it
Resolved, That the 2002 National Walther Conference
invite members of LCMS congregations to sign this resolution.
