On May 11, 2000, Rev. David Anderson, Chairman of the Board of Regents at Fort Wayne,
wrote about me as follows: "Where he finds the time to write all his nonsense is more
than I can see, especially with the pressing concerns of being a parish pastor."
At our meeting in Chicago after Easter, Anderson told me the same thing to my face with
a few added expletives.
In fairness, I have questioned his ability to be the Chairman of the Board of Regents
at Fort Wayne because he is well aware that the Faculty no longer supports Voter Supremacy
in LCMS congregations. Therefore, his accusation that I have neglected my duties as a
pastor is to be expected and there will probably be more to follow after he sees this
release.
This is standard practice for dealing with issues in the LCMS.
Actually, what I do as a pastor is no one's business but Redeemer Lutheran Church.
However, in view of Anderson's public attacks I must respond by making my activities
public, after my conduct as a pastor is now in question by no less a personage than the
Chairman of the Seminary Board of Regents.
Each month I give a report to the Board of Elders as to my actives for the previous
month. Because the Voters' are supreme they have right to know what their pastor is doing
with his time and their money.
The following are my reports to the Board of Elders for February, March, and April of
2000. The names are deleted. There is no question that I should have done more.
I'm also certain that many pastors accomplish far more than I do. However, I have been
able to convince the Elders that the work of the ministry is being accomplished to some
extent at Redeemer.
At this time, in addition to myself, Redeemer has 10 paid staff members, for all of
whom I am accountable to the Voter's Assembly.
Let's hope that Anderson is certain that the graduates at Fort Wayne are being taught
to be accountable for their activities to their Elders and Voters' Assemblies.
Lay readers are requested not to compare my activities with their pastor. Every
congregation is different and the requirements to complete the tasks of the ministry are
different in each congregation. Last year I put nearly 20,000 miles on my car carrying out
my duties.
If you wonder about the lasagna, it is only because I'm so good at it. Robert Preus did
have some concerns about my wanting to be a chef, but then, you take what you can get when
it comes to PR Directors.
